What is Oak Honey?

It is a dark honey made by bees from the sweet mineral liquid leaking from oak trees. Oak Honey, which has been identified in Turkey and has a geographical indication, is produced in Kırklareli Forests. It has received a geographical indication registration as Kırklareli Oak Honey.

Genuine Oak Honey Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) Faculty of Science, Department of Biochemistry, Lecturer Prof. Dr. Sevgi Kolaylı stated that oak honey is rich in phenolic compounds and said, “It has 5 times more antioxidant properties. This means that oak honey has a high effect on strengthening the body's defense system.” ¹

In another study (Namık Kemal University), the findings are as follows: ² “Oak honey is a secretion honey. Oak honey is formed when the secretion is collected by the bees, carried to the hive and converted into honey. It is a honey with a dark brown color close to black, a slightly bitter taste and a high viscosity. It is known to contain more antioxidants and minerals compared to light-colored honey.”
